Tools for Managing References

• Zotero - a free, easy-to-use tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share research.
• Mendeley - A free web-based and desktop system that allows you to add papers directly from your browser, import documents from your desktop, and generate references, citations and bibliographies in a whole range of journal styles. It also allows highlighting, annotation and export to other platforms and apps.
• eBook Citation Tool  - Allows you to manually enter an eBooks details into their relevant fields to automatically generate a citation for you.
• EndNote - A reference management software tool, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles. It is available to all staff and currently enrolled students of the University of Divinity. (The University of Divinity stopped supporting this software at the end of 2024).

Using the citation tool:

1. To view or export citations click the Cite button.
2. In the copy a citation drop-down menu, select the style of citation you wish to export. Chicago (notes - bibliography) 17th Ed. is the standard across the UD. 
3. An information window will appear once you have selected your citation style to encourage you to proofread the citation for any mistakes that may be present. Make note of any mistakes so you can edit them later in EndNote.
4. Either copy the citation or under Export a citation, click on Export to RIS or Export to EndNote.
