Citing a Whole Edited Collection (13.22 and 13.23)

When citing an edited collection as a whole, place the editor or editors in the author position. Add ed. after one editor’s name or eds. after multiple editors’ names.

Two or More Editors

For two editors, include both names in notes and the bibliography; invert only the first name in the bibliography. For more than two editors, use the first editor’s name followed by “et al.” in a note. In the bibliography, list up to six editors; for more than six, list the first three followed by “et al.”

In a book with an editor or translator in addition to the author, ed. or trans. in the note becomes Edited by or Translated by in the bibliography entry. See also 14.6.
