Social media

Social Media Content (14.106)

A number of organisations, public figures and institutions use social media to promote their values, make people aware of their policies, or publish snippets of larger published work. Private content, including direct messages and posts on private accounts, is treated as personal communication (and cited as described in 14.111). The medium of social media is useful for some assessment tasks, however, check with your lecturer about the use of social media sources if you are unsure. Generally, a bibliography entry is not needed for social media, but make sure that you explain the context of the note in your text.

Example Note

  1. NASA Webb Telescope (@NASAWebb), “👀 Sneak a peek at the deepest & sharpest infrared image of the early universe ever taken—all in a day’s work for the Webb telescope. (Literally, capturing it took less than a day!),” Twitter (now X), July 11, 2022, https://twitter.com/NASAWebb/status/1546621080298835970.

Example Shortened Note

  1. NASA Webb Telescope, “👀 Sneak a peek.”
